Liquid Particle Counter
Bebur liquid particle counters use the light obscuration principle to continuously monitor the size, quantity and changes of particles in water, oil and process liquids — online 24 hours a day or portable for laboratory and field use, with up to 32 user-configurable size channels.
What Is a Liquid Particle Counter?
A liquid particle counter is an instrument that measures the size and quantity of solid particles suspended in a liquid. The Bebur BT8500 Particle Sense liquid particle counter uses the light obscuration principle to continuously monitor particle size, count and changes in water online for 24 hours, while the BTP8300 Portable Liquid Particle Counter brings the same measurement principle to laboratory and field testing.
The instruments are reliable in performance and easy to use, with multiple particle size detection channels to meet diverse monitoring needs — from drinking water treatment and membrane filtration to fluid cleanliness in liquid cooling systems and contamination control of hydraulic and lubricating oils.
Counts are reported per milliliter or as totals per measurement cycle, in cumulative mode (particles larger than a channel size) or grouping mode (particles between adjacent channels), giving operators a clear, real-time picture of liquid cleanliness.
How Does a Liquid Particle Counter Work?
Sample flows through the cell. The liquid sample is drawn through a precision flow cell between a laser diode light source and a detector.
Particles block the beam. As particles in the liquid pass through the laser sensor, they interrupt the light beam and cast a shadow on the detector.
Signal reduction is measured. The light signal received by the detector decreases; this reduction is directly proportional to the equivalent size of each particle.
Size and count are calculated. The sensor calculates particle size and quantity from the amount of beam loss and the number of beam breaks, then reports results across the configured size channels.

Frequently Asked Questions About Liquid Particle Counters
What is a liquid particle counter?
A liquid particle counter is an instrument that measures the size and quantity of solid particles suspended in a liquid. Bebur liquid particle counters use the light obscuration principle to continuously monitor particles in water, oil and process liquids, supporting quality control in drinking water treatment, liquid cooling, membrane filtration, oil contamination monitoring and industrial processes.
How does a liquid particle counter work?
The liquid particle counter works on the light obscuration (light blockage) principle. When particles in the sample pass between the laser diode light source and the detector inside the flow cell, they block the light beam. The sensor calculates the size and quantity of the particles from the amount of beam loss and the number of beam breaks, because the signal reduction is directly proportional to the equivalent particle size.
What is the difference between the BT8500 and BTP8300 liquid particle counters?
The BT8500 is an online liquid particle counter designed for continuous 24-hour monitoring with an external sensor, a 7-inch color touchscreen and Modbus RS485 output. The BTP8300 is a Portable Liquid Particle Counter for laboratory and field use, weighing 2.5 kg, with battery or AC power, a built-in printer and a test time of two minutes or less. Both use the light obscuration principle.
How many particle size channels can a liquid particle counter measure?
Bebur liquid particle counters offer a standard of 8 particle size detection channels that users can set themselves, with 16, 24 and 32 channels available as options. The BTP8300 portable model can be customized with up to 1000 channels.
Can the liquid particle counter be calibrated on site?
Yes. Both the BT8500 and BTP8300 have built-in calibration functions that allow high-precision on-site field calibration without returning the instrument to the factory, saving time and cost.
What liquids can be tested with a liquid particle counter?
The instruments test particles in drinking water, industrial process water, medical product water and liquid cooling fluids, as well as oils such as aviation kerosene, hydraulic oil, lubricating oil, transformer oil, turbine oil, gear oil and engine oil. They also detect insoluble particles in organic liquids and polymer solutions.
